Suzy & Eric Thompson
Eric and Suzy Thompson have devoted a lifetime to the pursuit of American roots music: old-time Appalachian ballads and breakdowns, classic blues and jug band songs, bluegrass hot licks, and Louisiana Cajun dance music. They have performed and recorded with a pantheon of folk music greats, including playing in bands with Hoyle Osborne, Jane Voss, and Meredith Axelrod (not all together but that will probably happen at the CAG!!)
Eric is a pioneer lead flatpicker, and has worked with Jerry Garcia, Jody Stecher, David Grisman, and Kleptograss, his all-star group with Paul Kotapish and Mark Schatz. Recording credits include work with Mike Seeger, Charles River Valley Boys (Beatle Country), Alan Senauke and many others.
Suzy is a powerful blues singer and guitarist and award-winning fiddler who apprenticed with older Louisiana Cajun musicians under an NEA Fellowship. She has performed and recorded with Geoff Muldaur, Jim Kweskin, Maria Muldaur, Country Joe McDonald and many others. She is currently working on two recording project, “Suzy Sings Siebel” (a Paul Siebel tribute album) and an album of blues songs; at least the first of those will be available by the time of the CAG. Suzy is the director of the Berkeley Old Time Music Convention, now in its 21st year.
Eric and Suzy were founding members of many influential roots music groups including the Black Mountain Boys, Any Old Time, Blue Flame String Band and the California Cajun Orchestra. Eric and Suzy have appeared on a slew of recordings, both together and separately as members of various groups.
